Research and Planning: Unedited footage

This is all of the unedited footage that we have got.  The reason for there not being that much is because we deleted a lot of the filming on set because we didn't realized that it would be important after we have edited all.

Research and Planning: Magazine Draft 1

This is my first draft of one of the ideas I have about my film magazine 'Showcase' .

Research and Planning: Magazine Draft 2

This is my second magazine that I have made, now all I need to do is decide which one I prefer the most.

Research and Planning: Trailer 1st Draft

This is the first draft of my trailer for the teaser trailer Traffic.  We were only able to get a small amount of footage due to the actors we were having in it not being in on the times that we wanted to film in.  We have have to uses quite a bit of our story board due to this.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Draft 2

This is my second idea that I have for my poster for the film Traffic. This is a simple design again but is much more shoot able because it is flat ground and I will be able to find a location where it is empty and will look like somewhere that the Mise En Scene is based.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Draft 1

This is one of the ideas that I have for my poster.  It is a quite simple design with not a lot going on in the actual page.  This one will be quite hard to shoot because of the angle of the road and to find a place like this.

Research and Planning: SLR/Cinematography Test Shots

These are some of the test shots that we took for some ideas of where we could and couldn't take the shots at.  The last picture was shot in a medium dark area with no flash and that was the out come. The camera completly messed and up you can see what is going on.  We will always have to have the flash on when shooting in a dark area.

Reseach and Planning: Poster Ideas

This is a collage that I have found that I am using to try and help me get some ideas and spot some of the trends among the social realist genre.

Research and Planning: Audition Poster Evidence.

These are the pictures of the poster being up around college.  We put this up to get some interest for the film.

Research and Planning: Editing Log

This is the editing log so far, we will be adding more to it once we have more footage that we will be able to edit. At the moment we are unable to film but we will be getting some more footage in the near future.

Research and Planning: Shooting Schedule

These are some of the times that we will be attempting to film some of our footage, this is going to be the only time that we will have to film most of it so we need to make sure everyone on is in and ready to film.

Research and Planning: Poster Analysis 2

The idea of this poster is something that I think would be good for me to do for my film if I had a few more main characters.  A simple line up of all the main characters in a simple background.  The idea of having all the awards that it was nominated for and all of the accolades that it has got, this is something that I want to include in my poster.  This is something that is quite common for social realist films because they are not big Conglomerate films they need to show off all the praise that is available to them.
The colour scheme that is used is a 3 colour way of Red white and blue, these are the colours of the Union Jack so this represents how proud they are of the country that they live in.
The Mise en Scene is important in the way that they have done the costumes, they all follow the same style of having Doc Martins on and stone washed jeans turned up, they all of very short hair as well.  This gives them an identity and a way of recognizing the group.

Research and Planning: Poster Analysis 1

This poster of Shifty is from the same genre as what I am doing my film on.  This is a very simple design poster that they have made and it is something simple that I want to implement into my design but not this simple.
The Text that is used on this poster is very simple and it is like what I have found the samples on Photoshop. Very simple style but with a good style to it that means it doesn't look that basic, but at the same time doesn't look overly complicated.
Colours that are used basic colours: black and yellow.  The image that is used includes the only bit of Mise En Scene is the clothing and the costumes.  The clothing in this poster is simple everyday clothing, to create a realistic feel to the film.

Research and Planning: Magazine Analysis

Due to the Genre that I am doing for my film trailer, there isn't many UK Crime film magazine covers out there, so I am doing crime films in general and will talk about how my genre will be different.
Banner- The banner is just highlight a story that I will be featured in the magazine and that they want you to see so that you will be interested in buying the magazine.
Masthead- The masthead is to grab your attention so you are drawn into looking at the magazine closer.  The reason for making it so big on most magazines is to grab your attention an making you want to pick it up.
Cover Lines- Cover lines are placed on the right hand side so you can see in this case who the hero's will be of 2010.
The main image is a medium close up of the main articular of the magazine.
This is a magazine follows the 3 colour rule again because it works in all areas of different magazines including film magazines
The bar code is something that is standard on all magazines.

Research and Planning: Magazine Analysis

Due to the Genre that I am doing for my film trailer, there isn't many UK Crime film magazine covers out there, so I am doing crime films in general and will talk about how my genre will be different.

Banner- The banner is used to promote something on the magazine, it is used to try and catch the eye of the reader or a person just looking at the magazine.  The banner is something quite mainstream and it will be different in my case because I am doing almost a social realist and crime film.
Masthead- The masthead is the name of the magazine that will be able to be identified by most people when they look at it.  In this case Total Film is a magazine that is recognized all over the country so they are able to place things sightly over it and people will still what it is.
Positioning statement- This is something that normally features on a magazine and it is something I want on my magazine.
Cover lines- The cover lines are the little stories that you see on the side of the pages that highlight some of the key features that are included on the magazine.
3 Colour Rule- In most cases, magazines go by a 3 colour rule. This keeps a professional look to the magazine.  By using 3 colours you do not get overwhelmed by to many colours.
Bar-code- This is standard on a magazine on the front.
The main image is a medium close up of the main person who will be a main articular in the magazine.

Research and Planning: Production Company Ideas

These are some ideas that Wes created on Photoshop.  We will be using both of these designs.
The reason I like these designs is because we are doing a social realist film and it is a very simple design, which most social realist have.

Research and Planning: Plan of the week

For this week I will be hoping to complete the following;
2 x film magazine analysis
Meeting Posts
Film poster drafts
Extra Research

Friday, 26 October 2012

Research and Planning: Meeting Post.

After a quick meeting with Wes, we have decided over half term we will both do some independent research to help us get right into the work when we come back.

We will both be;
Thinking of different possible names for our film.
Think of a name and logo for our production company, link the two together.
Ideas for film audition posters
Watch a few different crime films to get some other ideas for our film.
Ask around if anyone wants to be in our film, either as main or extra.
Look at different areas for the Mise en Scene.

We have both decided which ones that we will do on our own and which ones we will do together.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Analysis

The genre of this poster is for a crime film, which is what I am creating for my project.  You can tell it is going to be a UK film us because of the tags at the top of the poster, it says stuff about it faith in British films and how it is an urban film.  What poster represents is two friends who seem to be almost split down the middle, you can tell this because of the line is right in the middle of both of them, but they are still friends because they are still sat next to each other and one of them is smiling.  The color that is used is a quite bright and strong color which has been contrasted with the use of black headings and text, which could be said the same of the film. One person who is strong and different and another who completely different.
The shot is almost a long shot which shows them both just sat down.  You can't tell where they are because of the way that it has been edited but you can tell by the clothing that they are wearing, they are just wearing casual clothing.
The font used is strong and stands out from the background and it very easy to read.
Audience this is being targeted at you cant really tell because there is no clear cut factor which makes it clear and because there is no rating in the bottom corner. The only hint of the narrative is the '24 hours to deal yourself out' Which gives the hints of them getting in to trouble and they are doing what they can to get out of what they are in.

Shank is a film that is a mixture of an action film and a crime film, which are some implements that I want to include into my film.  By doing this it means I will create a action and crime film which is something I am interested. The main picture shows lots of different members of the cast running away from an army of different people. Shows that this group of people are trying to run away from something but what that is isn't quite clear from this picture.  They look like they have been influenced by the person that is in the A of the title, and he might be looking over them or they are the reason that they are doing what they are.  There is lots of different text boxes like the Positioning statement, slug line, Title and other pieces of text.
The font of the title is strong text in bold red so it stands out and it is viewable /  readable at a quick glance.  The clothing that is wore in this picture is casual clothing that you would see people in the streets wearing.

Research and Planning: Equipment and software list for trailer

This will list some of the pieces of equipment that we will be using when creating our film.

We will be using Hand held cameras to add a realistic feel to the film.
We will also put them on tripods when we want to film static shots.
The Mac we are working on currently will be used to edit and upload all of our footage.
We will edit all of our footage in a mix of Sony Vegas 8.0 and iMovie.
Garage band will be used to create music.
Blogger will be used to update everyone on our progress.

Research and Planning: Prop and costume list for trailer and poster

Costume List.
Because the actors we are having in out film are going to be around the age range that we want. We will allow them to wear the clothing that they want because the people that we have in mind have a dress sense that suit the style of film we are going for.
We are looking for people with a very simple style.

Props
We will be using a number of multipul props throughout making this film.

- We will be using talc rolled up in cling film to give the effect of drugs.
- Because we will be filming a lot on the streets they will be an number of different props encountered through filming.

Research and Planning: Word Cloud

This is what I created on Worditout.com to help me think of a production company name and logo.  As I did this to help me think of different ideas that I will be able to add to my storyline and make my over all finished product better.
For this word cloud all I did was just think of some different key words that come to mind when I think about crime films.  By doing this is creates a form of a mind map that when you look at it you will get some idea about what to  include in your film.  Also what production company you could make and what the logo could look like.

Research and Planning: Treatment

This treatment will explain what I will want in my trailer for my proposal idea 1.
I have just had a talk with my teacher to check which one she thinks I should do and why. She said go for the first one because that is the one that I seem to be the more interested in doing and have more idea for this one.  I think that my first idea is something completely different to most peoples ideas that they have for there films/trailers.

-The way that I will start of my trailer will be with the BBFC rating before any of my footage is shown.
-Then it will go to a screen of my production company that I am using.  This will create a realistic effect to to viewers.
-It will start with the two young lads just sat in there house when some one come in asking them if they fancy making some extra money helping him out.
-They agree because they don't see the harm in what they are doing and they look quite happy with there new job.
-Montage of them buying and selling drugs being happy and successful doing it.
-Long shot of the two of them sat there relaxing when then get a call for a big job.
-The music then changes to something a bit more suspense building, to show that this could be dangerous.
-They take the job but it lands them into trouble with some high end dealers
-The next lot of shots are made into a montage of them nearly getting into fights with each other and others who they are involved with.
-Lots of jump cuts of lots of different confrontations and chase scenes of the two lads trying to run away from all of the fights.
The whole thing fades to black and then a shot of them just sat in the corner in silence trying to think what they are going to do about everything when they hear someone trying to kick the door down.
-Cut to black screen.
-Release date and name appear on the screen.
End.

Research and Planning: Auditions

These are the auditions that I did for our film 'Traffic'. We wanted to get a wide range of young actors for my film, which is why we all look so different in out auditions because we wanted a range of different looking people.

Research and Planning: Practical / Impractical Trailers

Practical
Shifty 2008 will be a good trailer to look at because the editing techniques are very simple. The areas that they have filmed all there footage in are very simple street surroundings and houses which can be easily replicated.
The way that they use the editing is simple straight and jump cuts so we get an idea of the films story line with seeing some of the peek points on the films.

                                                                                     Impractical
The Sweeney 2012 wouldn't be the best film to try and take ideas from.  Due to most of the scenes on the trailer is full of car chase clips, including expensive equipment. The areas that they shoot the non chase scenes they are wide open factory's that we don't have access to. They use guns as props as well which we won't have that much access to.  This Crime film is a high budget film, which we don't have.

Friday, 5 October 2012

Research and Planning: Independent Research

Potential props
I was looking at different potential props that we could use in our film to give it a crime feeling. We want to get some guns in there if we can do.  The main focus for out film is it is a crime film about people who live there life's messing with drugs and dealing with them as well.  We could use talc to give an effect of a drug.

Research and Planning: Independent Research

I was thinking of different ideas what people in the films could wear clothing wise.  This is one idea that I had.

This person I have on this post wouldn't be in the film be cause he doesn't suit the style of the film, but for clothing I was thinking people wear very simple clothing.  Simple clothing like T-shirts and jeans and a hoodie creates a youth feel to people so that is a reason I think we will go with clothing like that in our film.

Thursday, 4 October 2012

Research and Planning: Independent Research

I was looking at a few different crime films and looking at the different areas that we could film some of the key scenes in the film and I think some of the places that we could use would be places like back alleyways to create a true crime feeling to some of are film.

Also we could film different segments of the film in private areas like peoples house.  By doing this it shows that the people involved in crime don't want to be caught out in what they are doing.
We could potentially use some abandoned houses to create a true crime feeling.
